The Evidence Based Body Care Routine

Your skincare routine may be set in stone, but are you giving your body the same level of attention with a full body care routine? The skin on your body works as a barrier to protect you from environmental stressors and bacteria you're exposed to daily. This means your body is also prone to the same signs of premature signs of aging and sun damage that your face is. Whether you're looking to build a body care routine from scratch or revamp your current approach — we're here to help.

What’s the Difference Between a Cream and a Lotion? October 7th 2022

The Body Cream and The Body Lotion are our best-selling body care essentials. While they may serve the same purpose for your skin, they have very different formulas. Creams are thicker and filled with oil-based emollients and humectants, while lotions have a lightweight texture that's usually water-based. This blog discusses choosing between The Body Cream and The Body Lotion based on skin type, climate, and personal preferences. We'll also discuss some of the other comparable formulas in our body care collection so that you can find the best fit for your needs.

The Body Care Basics

When building a full body care routine that delivers results - it's best to stick to the basics. You don't need a 10-step body care routine to protect your skin from environmental stressors or keep it hydrated.

Instead, aim to fill your routine with a few essentials filled with nutrients and hydrating ingredients. If you're struggling with dry hands, feet, or other pesky skincare problems, you can add supplemental products to target these concerns.

With your body skin care routine, your goal should be to keep your skin hydrated. When your skin is hydrated, it improves elasticity and prevents signs of aging from showing. Here are three must-haves you need to stay consistent with to help your skin retain moisture:

  • Moisturizer
  • Exfoliant
  • Sunscreen

The Augustinus Bader Body Care Routine

At Augustinus Bader, we believe your body deserves the same attention as the skin on your face. We have spent years formulating products that target common skincare concerns and help you maintain healthy, supple skin.

When building your body care routine, here's what you'll need:

Exfoliate

A gentle exfoliant allows you to buff away dead skin cells to make room for new growth. If you aren't exfoliating your body regularly, your body will retain dead skin cells, which can build up your pores. Without exfoliating, this can leave your skin dull, dry, and rough.

It's best to exfoliate your body every ten days or so to help you maintain soft, supple skin everywhere and the natural glow of your skin texture and tone.

The Essence is our three-in-one exfoliant, toner, and hydrating essence. This revitalizing formula reduces discoloration, soothes redness, and removes imperfections. Our formula is gentle enough to use on the face and body - and can be great for treating your elbows or other dry spots on the body. Simply apply a small amount to a cotton ball and apply directly to your skin's rough, dry parts.

Another alternative is a body scrub. A body scrub is a physical exfoliant for maintaining soft, supple skin, reducing ingrown hairs, and eliminating dead skin cells. We recommend using a body scrub at least 1-2 times a week for the best results.

Moisturize & Hydrate

A daily moisturizer for your body is vital to keeping your skin hydrated and nourished. Think of your daily moisturizer as a barrier that protects your body from environmental factors and stressors. If you don't at the least wear a daily moisturizer, your skin is susceptible to dryness, irritation, fine lines, and wrinkles.

  • The Body Cream: Hydrate, firm, and tone the skin on your body with our multi-award-winning body cream. This formula contains a blend of conditioning botanicals and engineered clean actives that will help promote healthy barrier function while reducing the appearance of cellulite, stretch marks, and pigmentation. During our 12-week user trial, 92% of participants agreed this product helped reduce the appearance of cellulite.

  • The Body Oil: Lightweight, efficient, and incredibly fast-absorbing, The Body Oil is our high-performance oil formulated with TFC8® and potent plant-based actives. When used consistently in your full body care routine, it helps hydrate, nourish, and restore the skin for a smoother, firmer appearance. During our 12-week user trials, 100% of participants agreed The Body Oil leaves skin feeling intensely hydrated, nourished, and supple.

  • The Body Lotion: A daily must-have to have in your routine. The Body Lotion is our lightweight formula with moisture-locking technology to help hydrate, nourish, and tone the skin. This non-greasy formula contains a potent blend of essential fatty acids, minerals, and antioxidants that help protect against free radicals and keep the skin plump and healthy. During our 12-week user trials, 98% of participants agreed The Body Lotion protects against the feeling of dehydrated, dry, chapped, and rough skin.

What About the Hands?

Did you know that the hands are often the first part of your body to show signs of aging? Your hands receive exposure to UVB rays, bacteria, and other environmental stressors throughout the day. Over time, this can lead to wrinkles and fine lines.

  • The Hand Treatment: Our rich yet fast-absorbing formulation nourishes and hydrates your skin, leaving your hands soft and supple. This everyday essential contains nourishing skin superfoods, clean actives, and TFC8® technology. The small bottle is perfect for carrying with you on the go whenever your hands need a hydration pick-me-up throughout the day.

Tools/Treatments/Masks

If your skin craves and needs extra TLC, consider incorporating tools, treatments, or masks into your body care routine. Here are a few popular options:

  • Pumice Stone: Pumice stones cleanse the body, help eliminate dead skin cells, and are a great tool to use on the heels of your feet.

  • Body Brush: Dry brushing is proven to help exfoliate the skin, improve circulation, and improve skin texture. While it can't replace your go-to exfoliant, it can help give your skin that extra exfoliation it needs in between.

  • Body Scrubber: When you wash your body in the shower, pair it with a silicone body scrubber, which improves the cleansing process and ensures you reach every part of your body.

Protect

SPF is arguably one of the most essential parts of any body care routine list. Any uncovered part of your body will feel the sunlight, and while the sun may feel great during the warm weather, UV exposure can lead to wrinkles, fine lines, discoloration, and even skin cancer if you aren't careful.

You can minimize sunburn, cancer, and inflammation risk with an SPF in your body care routine. We recommend adding an SPF of 30 or higher into your routine and looking for a formula with a fast-absorbing texture that doesn't leave a greasy residue. This will make it easier to reapply throughout the day when needed.

Diet

Your skin is the biggest organ in your body. If you aren't prioritizing a diet filled with vitamins and nutrients, you may notice changes in your skin. A healthy diet needs lean proteins, vegetables, and healthy fats. You should also be mindful of your water intake and ensure you get enough water to keep your skin hydrated.
